Labour market offering perspective

With its relatively young population, Limburg has a large reserve labour force. Compared to other regions in Flanders, the province has a much higher influx onto the labour market and the number of available workers exceeds the Flemish average. Furthermore, Limburg’s favourable demographic evolution guarantees the availability of labour capacity, both now and in the future.

Language skills

The Limburg population has a high level of language proficiency. Several languages are taught as early as elementary grade level and schools foster multi-linguistic skills. Proper knowledge of languages is essential in doing business within Europe and with the rest of the world. Graduates are often proficient in English, French, German and Dutch.

Extensively developed educational network

Education is at a very high level in Belgium. Limburg has one university (Hasselt) and three academies (Catholic Academy Limburg, Provincial Academy Limburg and the XIOS Academy). Limburg’s geography puts it squarely within the ELAt knowledge triangle (Eindhoven, Louvain, Aachen), a highly linked network of universities and research centres. Other universities located within Limburg’s range include the Delft University of Technology, the Eindhoven University of Technology and the University of Liege.

Higher education in Flanders is characterised by a high success rate: more than 1 in 4 people have a higher education certificate. Limburg also boasts a large number of schools for technology. Strongly focused on the labour market, these schools use state-of–the-art techniques and technology. They also closely cooperate with industries and businesses.
