On Tuesday the 31st of January, Mr. WANG Heliang, Counselor of the Economic Department of the Chinese Embassy in Brussels paid a visit to our province. The Counselor was accompanied by the Secretaries of the Economic Department, Mr. LIU Zhandong, Mr. HUO Wei, and Mr. WANG Chen. As the Department of Economy plays and important role in the information gathering process of Chinese companies planning to enter the European market, we believe it is important to provide the Department with accurate information on the potential of our province. Therefore, during the visit the strength of our province as logistic gateway was demonstrated by a combination of company visits and presentations.
In the morning, the delegation visited Lanaken, where they were received at Gobo, specialist in road transportation. During the visit, the mayor of the city of Lanaken, Mr. Marino Keulen, stressed the good accessibility of our province. After visiting the Rail Terminal of Lanaken, the visit went on to the Port of Genk, where both cargo transport by water as by rail were explained in detail. At noon, the delegation visited the Mobility Center at Genk (South), where they witnessed the training possibilities offered by the adjacent VDAB Training Center.
In the afternoon, the delegation was received at Groep H. Essers, where they received an introduction to a European Distribution Center and warehousing facilities. The visit ended with an informal dinner in the presence of the mayor of the city of Genk, Mr. Wim Dries, and several representatives of the logistics sector in Limburg.
The Counsellor and his staff members were impressed by the logistic capacities of our province. Not only did they get the opportunity to witness the potential in the fields of space and infrastructure, of accessibility and multimodal modes of transportation, they were also impressed by the logistical knowledge and the fine-tuning of the training possibilities to the needs of the labor market. The Economic Department can make good use of the gathered information when informing potential Chinese investors.
