TOKYO GAS buys shares in T-Power, Tessenderlo.
The gas-powered plant of T-Power in Tessenderlo, which will be officially inaugurated this week, will predominantly now pass into Japanese hands. Just before the inauguration, the Tessenderlo chemicals group and Siemens each sold 13.33% of their one-third share in T-Power, and as a result of this more than 60% of the shares are now in Japanese hands.
After all, the Japanese energy group Tokyo Gas is the new owner of this 26.66%, while a substantial part was already in the hands of Itochu, the large Japanese trading house. Earlier this year, the latter had already acquired the share of International Power.
For Tokyo Gas, this is their first investment in electricity production in Europe. The company plans to invest a total of 1.4 billion euros in overseas projects. With 11 million customers, Tokyo Gas is Japan's largest city gas supplier. Not only does the company supply cities with gas, it also sells gas appliances, places installations, and plays an active role in the production of electricity.
This thermal and gas power station required an investment of over 250 million euros for a capacity of 425 megawatts, representing the electricity consumption of one million families.
